Non-Shooting Weekend
Last weekend was my first non-shooting weekend in a long time (hence no new photographs).
However, this coming weekend, I will be working with a wedding photography studio that was voted as "The Knot's Best of Wedding Photographers!" |

Kristel & Andrey's Engagement Session
I just got back from Kristel & Andrey's engagement session in Malibu. I'm still downloading photos onto my computer but I just had to post this one.
I LOVED taking their engagement photos at the beach - got a little wet and sandy but it was very worth it.

Christie & Israel's Engagement Session
Here are some of Christie & Israel's engagement photographs taken on the University of Redlands campus. They were a super cute couple!
Having never been to the University of Redlands, it was fun to see what we could do with the location. :)

Photography
I didn't always know I loved taking photographs. After I graduated from UCLA in 2001, I really wanted to challenge myself creatively. I was tired of the computer programming, the calculus, and the memorizing of facts. I picked up a point and shoot camera from Fry's Electronics and shot telephone poles, street lamps, flowers, and swans.
Realizing the limitations of the point and shoot, I returned the camera and bought a 3.0 megapixel camera that had more sophisticated functions - but a point and shoot nonetheless.
I had this camera for two years or so - and I read everything I could read on photography and carried my camera everywhere.
In May 2004, shortly after I met my husband, we took a road trip through Yosemite National Park and I fell in love with it. I had never seen such landscape and I was frustrated from my camera's shortcomings. When we got back from our trip, I purchased my first digital SLR.
From there, the creative possibilities opened up to me. When I see a scene that inspires me, I feel like I completely light up.
I come from a long line of artists. I did not know it until I got into photography, but my grandfather was an amateur photographer. After he died, I inherited several of his cameras and light meters. I keep his cameras stored away but I think about him from time to time and I think he would be proud. |

E-mail from Groom's Mom
Being part of weddings has allowed me to be involved in such an emotional, beautiful day and I have absolutely loved it so far. I got this e-mail the other day from the groom's mom and I was so touched. I get to do what I love AND be around warm people - now that's a good job to have!
Oh, my goodness, it was so fantastic and beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes!! You did a super amazing job, the photography is outstanding and the music is lovely. Thank you soooo much ;-)... Thank you for all your hard work and attention to detail. You are truly gifted. |

Freedom
Last month, I attended David Jay's workshop in Santa Barbara and am glad I heard his advice early in my career.
He told us to always keep in mind what our goal is. In essence, my ultimate goal is freedom, as I'm sure a lot of people's goal is.
With school, photographing on the weekends, and working a 9-5, I began to burn the wick at both ends. I thought of my priorities and how I was ultimately doing everything that was opposite of what I wanted.
On Friday, I asked my boss to work part time. Albeit a minor change, I think I can start moving forward again. |

Amazing Wedding Photos
I stumbled upon an article that had the secret to looking amazing in your weddings photos. Who knew it could be so simple!
Here's the secret to looking amazing in your wedding photos: Have more fun than everyone else at the wedding.
Couples shouldn't be concerned when the tablecloths are the wrong color, or when the band plays a song they don't enjoy, or even when a few raindrops start to fall. No matter what happens, couples who are beaming, laughing, and genuinely glowing in a way have amazing photographs that makeup and creative lighting can't replicate.
